One Direction star Liam Payne had a “meltdown” before the pop group’s show was canceled earlier this week, according to reports.
Fans were devastated after the foursome’s Belfast show was called off Tuesday night at short notice because Payne felt unwell.
Now an insider has said the “pressures of fame” caused the 22-year-old pop idol to suffer a panic attack.
“The pressures of fame and being on the road for two years have made Liam ill,” a source told The Sun.
“He was devastated about letting everyone down, especially the fans, but he wasn’t physically able to get on stage. He had a complete meltdown.”
Payne had recovered enough to join the group on-stage on Wednesday night, much to the delight of their legion of fans.
The source said they believed the illness had been “brewing” for a while because of the group’s uncertainty in recent weeks.
The group are scheduled to take a break from touring and recording next year, after five years together.
On Wednesday morning, Payne apologized on Twitter to worried fans and said he felt bad for letting them down.
