Hurricane Harvey death toll reaches 50, as Trump travels to Texas, Louisiana

Sept. 2 (UPI) — Texas officials now say at least 50 people are confirmed deceased or feared dead following destructive flooding from Hurricane Harvey.

Most of the deceased have been in Harris County, where officials confirmed 28 deaths so far, the Houston Chronicle reported. President Donald Trumpis visiting Houston and Lake Charles, La., on Saturday and plans to meet with families displaced by the extreme flooding.

Trump first visited Texas last week, stopping in Corpus Christi and Austin.

The morgue at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences had 134 bodies in storage as of Friday afternoon and requested additional space to expand its capacity of 203 bodies.

The state provided a refrigerated truck to offer “extra storage capacity as ongoing search and recovery efforts continue over the next several weeks,” spokeswoman Tricia Rudisill Bentley said.

A family of six drowned in a white van while crossing a bridge on Green River Road in Greens Bayou to escape floodwaters in the single deadliest incident resulting from the storm.

At least nine people outside of Houston were also killed in incidents related to the storm — including Joshua Aedan Feuerstein, 33, who drowned after getting caught in rapid floodwater, KHOU reported.
