Derek Jeter called the Swedish underwear company’s allegations “categorically false.”
Derek Jeter is hitting back against claims that he walked away from a deal to promote a line of fancy skivvies because he didn’t want to be connected to rapper 50 Cent.
The allegations are “categorically false,” Jeter said in a Thursday statement responding to a lawsuit filed by Swedish underwear company Frigo.
“I facilitated the introductory meeting between 50 Cent and the company, so it makes absolutely no sense that I would object to 50 Cent being a Frigo brand ambassador or think that 50 Cent is ‘too urban’ for the brand.
“(Company CEO Mathias Ingvarsson’s) statements are particularly malicious because he knew all along that I never agreed to be a spokesperson or ambassador for the brand, and that is confirmed in documents that Mr. Ingvarsson himself signed.”
Jeter spoke out after TMZ.com reported that Frigosued Jeter for nearly $ 5 million for allegedly reneging on his promise to market the brand.
Frigo claimed Jeter backed out when the company tried to hire 50 Cent to be a brand ambassador because the Yankee icon feared the rapper would make the line too “urban.”
The notoriously private Jeter, who is known for avoiding drama, vowed to fight back against the allegations.
The company claimed Jeter backed out when the company tried to hire 50 Cent to be a brand ambassador because the Yankee icon feared the rapper would make the line too “urban.”
“As a major investor, current stockholder and lender to the Company, I am disgusted by Mr. Ingvarsson’s decision to make these false allegations against me in the press, instead of attempting to work out our business dispute in private,” said Jeter, who added that he has no knowlede of a lawsuit.
“I will take all necessary steps to prove these allegations to be untrue.”
There was no immediate word from 50 Cent, who was born Curtis Jackson.
The details of the suit, filed in Sweden in 2013 but only made public Tuesday, left the Yankees-loving rapper feeling like he had been given a wedgie.
“Wow, guess I’m not a Yankees fan anymore,” the Queens-born rapper wrote on Instagram under a picture of Jeter. “LETS GO METS! Man you can’t trust nobody these day. smh.”
